A digital nomad visa legally allows you to work remotely for a foreign country and receive foreign income. In Malta, we call it Nomad Residence Permit.

What is the Nomad Residence Program?

The Nomad Residence Permit allows you to keep your employment in another country whilst legally residing in Malta.

Who can apply for Nomad Residence Program?

The Nomad Residence Permit is for anyone who can work online remotely.

You must be a third-country national, which means you would typically need a Visa to travel to Malta.

How long is a Nomad Residence Program Visa valid?

The permit can be issued for one year and can be renewed at the discretion of Residency Malta, as long as you meet the set eligibility criteria - see below.

What are the criteria for Nomad Residence Program?

You must be 18 years or over. You have to be employed by a foreign company, or self-employed (freelance or consulting).

Your income must be at least €32,400 per year.

You need to be able to provide the following documents:

  1. Travel document
  2. Property rental/purchase agreement covering the whole duration of the permit upon approval of the application
  3. Health insurance policy upon approval of the application (doesn't apply to British nationals).

How to apply for Nomad Residence Program?

Email your application to [email protected] with supporting documentation.

The application costs €300 (admin fee) and it takes 30 working days.
